Sewage backups are a biohazard. Stay out of the area and call us. We arrive in full PPE within 30 minutes, contain the contamination, remove affected materials safely, and disinfect to make your home livable again.
Why It Matters
Raw sewage is classified by the IICRC as Category 3 "grossly contaminated" water — black water. It contains pathogenic bacteria (E. coli, salmonella), viruses, parasites, fungi, and chemical contaminants. Direct contact, inhalation of aerosolized droplets, or even prolonged proximity can cause gastroenteritis, hepatitis, respiratory infections, and skin diseases.
Cleanup is not a job for shop vacuums and household cleaners. It requires Tyvek suits, respirators, gloves, eye protection, full containment, EPA-registered disinfectants, and proper disposal under state biohazard rules. Our crews are trained, equipped, and certified for exactly this.
Our Process
Every sewage cleanup follows IICRC S500 protocols for Category 3 water with EPA-registered disinfectants and proper biohazard disposal.
Plastic sheeting, negative air pressure, and full personal protection isolate the contaminated zone.
Saturated porous materials (drywall, carpet, insulation) are bagged, sealed, and disposed of as biohazard waste.
Hard surfaces are scrubbed and treated with EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectants. Subfloors are sealed.
Air-quality testing confirms the area is safe. We rebuild walls, floors, and finishes and document everything for insurance.

Yes. Raw sewage is classified as Category 3 "black water" and contains bacteria, viruses, parasites, and chemicals that can cause serious illness. Stay out of any affected areas, keep children and pets away, and avoid contact with surfaces, items, or air the sewage may have touched. Call us immediately — our crews arrive in full PPE.
The most common causes are tree-root intrusion in older clay pipes (very common in older Nassau and Suffolk neighborhoods), municipal sewer overflow during heavy rain, sewer-line collapses or offsets, and blockages from grease, wipes, or roots inside the home's plumbing. Heavy storms can overwhelm both private septic systems and municipal lines.
Standard homeowners policies usually do not cover sewer backup unless you have added a specific endorsement (sometimes called sewer-and-drain or water backup coverage). If you have it, the cleanup is typically covered. We help identify your coverage on arrival and document everything for the claim.
Most porous items in direct contact with sewage — drywall, carpet, pad, insulation, upholstered furniture, particleboard, paper goods — must be removed and disposed of for health reasons. Hard, non-porous items (sealed concrete, glazed tile, glass, metal, sealed hardwood) can usually be cleaned and disinfected.
Most residential sewage backup jobs take 4 to 7 days end-to-end: same-day extraction and demolition of contaminated materials, 3 to 5 days of drying and antimicrobial treatment, then rebuild. Larger commercial or multi-room events take longer. We do not close the job until air-quality testing confirms the area is safe.
